Ecto Handplanes was designed and developed by Chris Anderson on the South Coast of NSW, Australia. Ecto Handplanes aims to create the best body surfing hand plane designs for all bodysurfers. Since 2013 Ecto Handplanes has won multiple design awards both in Australia and internationally, all acknowledging the specific shape, volume and strap system that maximise speed and lift when bodysurfing. Enjoy bodysurfing deep within waves in any surf conditions from small summer beach breaks to big peeling reefs!
Ecto Handplanes was born out of the idea of upcycling broken surfboards from Chris's 1000 Surfboard Graveyard project:
“1000 Surfboard Graveyard highlighted the thousands of surfboards going to landfill each year. As a surfer and designer, I developed Ecto Handplanes as an innovative way to recycle broken surfboards. Ecto Handplanes are designed with a slight single concave and a carefully balanced volume to make body surfing fast and fun! Ecto (eck-tow) was a nickname, short for 'ectomorph', a term that refers to people with a lean and tall body shape. The name fits perfectly with the long, stretched out body form people must make while bodysurfing.
